A Weekend in East London with Matthew Calvin

For those of you that missed it, we popped up in Shoreditch for a week earlier this month. Popping up at Boxpark reminded us quite how wonderful East London is! This week, we spoke to Matthew about his favourite places to visit.

Situated within East London’s famous Old Spitalfields Market, Blixen is a European cafe styled restaurant that you won’t forget quickly. Not only is the restaurant styled beautifully, the food is mouth-wateringly good and the cocktails are great, too! Many a Matthew Calvin team meal has been spent at Blixen.

Although our pop-up’s no longer open, Boxpark is one of our favourite places to go. With great food, a great atmosphere and loads of wonderful independent brands, what’s not to love? We’re hoping to be coming back soon, so go and check it out for yourselves.

“I’ve called East London home for nearly eight years, and I can’t see myself leaving any time soon!”

An obvious choice, but for good reason… Columbia Road Flower Market is a must-visit if you’re in East London. Whether you’re just going to have a browse, or if you want to deck your house out with the most beautiful blooms, Columbia Road Flower Market is the perfect place… but prepare for the crowds!

The best wine and pasta in East London – a recommended spot for a relaxed evening enjoying East London’s finest food and drink. Michael Sager is an expert in wine, and has introduced a selection of Sager & Wilde locations to share his knowledge on wine, and now food, with all of us. Not to be missed!

“Columbia Road Flower Market is an absolute must. Joe and I take our dog, Colin, most Sundays and pick up flowers to fill the flat with.”

One of our favourite stops along Broadway Market is L’eau A La Bouche, a delicious delicatessen and cafe serving rustic French food. Sitting outside the cafe with an iced coffee on a sunny day is the perfect spot for people watching, and the refillable wine bottles are lovely for a summer picnic in nearby London Fields Park.

Broadway Market is a lively shopping street situated between London Fields Park and Regents Canal. The street is home to fantastic shops, restaurants and bars, but the highlight is the weekly market, open every Saturday 9am-5pm rain or shine. With delicious food, from gourmet scotch eggs to spicy Sri Lankan curries, the market has something for everyone.

Have we missed anywhere great off the list? Let us know in the comments below. And remember, we’re only based down the road in Farringdon, so if you’re visiting East London be sure to drop by and say hi!
