Meet our in-house jeweller, Sophie
A Yorkshire girl at heart, Sophie brings the chic (and classic Northern humour!) to the office as our Studio Manager. Our resident jewellery star, she moved from York, to Leeds, to London to study Jewellery and Silversmithing and the city captured her heart. A big shout out from all of us at Matthew Calvin to Sophie’s mum, who she inherited her love of jewellery making from; as well as her day to day dealings with the retail side of the business, Sophie can often be found at our workbench using skills she learned growing up to craft new product samples and beautiful bespoke pieces.
What’s your go-to meal for a cozy night in?
Spag bol covered in parmesan with as much garlic bread as pasta – ultimate comfort food.
What’s your earliest jewellery memory?
I remember getting food poisoning on a family holiday in Spain when I was about 10 and demanding that the only thing that would make me feel better was a pair of giant pink dangly dream catcher earrings I’d seen at the market… Quite the statement.
What’s your favourite local hidden gem?
I’ve recently moved to South East London from South West (Georgia and I used to be basically neighbours!) so I’m still getting to know the area, but I love The Bottle Shop in Catford for delicious cocktails in a chilled setting and The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill; the view over London from the gardens is amazing.
Go to trashy movie?
She’s The Man – Amanda Bynes at her best. I must have watched it hundreds of times as a teenager.
I couldn’t possibly start the day without…?
Coffee – investing in a milk frother has transformed my mornings.

I wear this every day and get so many compliments!
3 – Hanging Monstera Earrings.
I’ve got my eye on these ones next…
4 – Octagon Bolt Ring.
I love the simple but mechanical shape – it looks great when you wear all 3 colours together.
