Matthew Calvin Sterling Silver Jewellery Care Guide
At Matthew Calvin we want to make sure that you know enough about jewellery care to keep your Matthew Calvin pieces in great condition for as long as you’d like to continue wearing them!
When buying MC jewellery, with the right care and attention, you can be assured that your pieces can stay in almost perfect condition. All of our jewellery is made from solid Sterling Silver (excluding a small range of Solid Gold pieces), meaning if properly cared for, it will not tarnish or turn you green. Plated jewellery has a layer of gold on top of the base metal (Sterling Silver, in our case). Surface treatments will eventually wear off over time. Below we have outlined tips to keep your Matthew Calvin jewellery looking its’ best.
We can make all of our pieces in solid gold, and as they aren’t plated, they will always keep their colour.
STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY - TOP TIPS
1. Always put jewellery on after spraying perfume or applying moisturiser, and remove when washing up, bathing and using chemical products.
2. Give your jewellery the occasional clean with a Polishing Cloth– this is the cheapest, and arguably the easiest way to clean your jewellery.
3. Bring tarnished jewellery back to life with Silver Dip – also a great, relatively low-cost and easy solution to polishing. Using plastic tweezers, dip your silver jewellery (not for use with plated jewellery) into the liquid. Great for chains and pieces with a rough texture, silver dip ensures that every crevice in your jewellery is reached. Just make sure you rinse it with water afterwards!
4. Store your jewellery in airtight plastic bags when it’s not being worn. Doing this stops jewellery from tarnishing and scratching.
VERMEIL JEWELLERY - TOP TIPS
1. Always put jewellery on after spraying perfume or applying moisturiser, and remove when washing up, bathing and using chemical products.
2. Remove when sleeping to minimise skin contact, which slowly rubs at the plating.
3. If needed, polish with a soft, lint-free cloth to keep plated pieces clean.
Our plating is great quality – we’ve tested it more times than you can count… but if you’re wearing something every day, we’d suggest investing in a bespoke solid gold piece.
