As a product based company, we’re not used to working from home and have been finding the last few weeks a definite learning curve! This week, we checked in with Julia, Noelle, Claire and Rachael who have given us their top tips on WFH, and have passed on a few other small brands that they’re supporting right now!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING MOTIVATED WHILST WORKING FROM HOME?

Having worked from home for quite a few years now, I’ve found that sticking to a routine (even if just loosely!) is key! So always sitting down to my laptop at 9.30ish with a cup of coffee in hand and my to-do list on the side is the best way to start the day for me and the rest of the day just unfolds from there!

HAVE YOU STARTED LEARNING ANYTHING NEW?

I’ve actually gone back to knitting socks – I used to do this in my office lunchbreaks when I first moved to London! I find knitting incredibly thearaputic and it’s nice to do something you know how to already so you’re not having to think too much – it’s nice to be using your hands rhythmically but let the brain rest at the same time! I’m sharing the pattern and my progress on my Instagram Highlights (@stylonylon). You’ll find me currently turning the heel!

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN ENJOYING COOKING / EATING AT HOME?

I’ve just got back into making a lunchtime soup! I used to do this when I was at university and it’s great to have some leftover for the next day! Super simple, garlic, leek, a carrot and two medium poatatoes heated in a bit of oil; bring to the boil adding stock, salt and pepper; then mash and add a handful of lentils in the last 20 minutes!

SMALL BRANDS THAT HAVE JULIA'S SUPPORT...

Ah where do I begin! I’ve been making a point of sharing small businesses still operating on my Stories and have just published a blog post this weekend (including your lovely selves!). Special shoutouts to Mimi Berry,Pai Skincare, Darling & Gold and Disciple.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING MOTIVATED WHILST WORKING FROM HOME?

Make a to do list for the day/week ahead, giving yourself just enough to keep busy but not too much that you feel overwhelmed and give up. It’s best just to take each day as it comes – and if you’re having one of those days where you can’t motivate yourself, NO WORRIES. Call it a day, do something nice to distract yourself and start again the next day.

HAVE YOU BEEN MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR 1 DAILY OUTING?

I haven’t really been going out all that much, I’ve been exercising at home and have a nice balcony to let fresh air into my flat. I live in East London so on the days where I do go out, it’s usually for a short run or walk around a park.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WATCHING?

Just finished Tiger King – truly shocking! Before that, I watched The Good Place on Netflix from the beginning as I’ve never seen it before. It’s a really easy lighthearted watch and something you can have in the background. Next, I’m going to tuck into the new series of Brooklyn 99 which is my favourite series.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING MOTIVATED WHILST WORKING FROM HOME?

I’ve never worked from home before so this is all quite new to me. I try to keep a relatively normal routine so I work the same hours as I would in the office. Around lunch time I’ll do one of the many live workouts available online (energy rush!), have a shower, quickly check emails and then sit down to eat lunch. My “office” is now in the living room and I’ve set up a desk with my laptop and additional screen and I’ve made it quite homely with a desk lamp, plant, hand cream and of course.. snacks. I’m lucky to live with two amazing flatmates so we motivate each other. If you live on your own I’d recommend checking in regularly with colleagues or friends in the same situation to get a sense of community and human contact!

HAVE YOU BEEN MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR 1 DAILY OUTING?

Yes! During the sunny and warmer days I’ve actually done my workout in our garden or terrace, or simply gone to the shop to buy food. I’ve also gone on walks along the thames, it really calms me down seeing the water and views.

LET US KNOW 1 POSITIVE THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU THIS MONTH!

Despite everything going on I feel like it’s brought me closer to friends and family.

SMALL BRANDS THAT HAVE Noelle's SUPPORT...

Pantee is a small startup by two sisters and they’re so close to launching their underwear brand. They are literally transforming deadstock t-shirts destined for landfill into minimal and classic underwear.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR STAYING MOTIVATED WHILST WORKING FROM HOME?

As someone who already works from home quite a lot, it wasn’t a massive change for me and I’m used to having to self-motivate. My number one tip is to get up and dressed and create a workspace outside of your sleep/relax space to get yourself in the zone! I also like to set myself break markers/incentives for example respond to emails for the next hour and then you can make yourself a cuppa and have biscuits! It works!

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WATCHING?

TIGER KING! (who isn’t?!) Haha the weirdest/best thing on Netflix right now! Also This is Us, Big Little Lies, The Handmaids Tale and lots of throwback films like Sleepless in Seattle.

LET US KNOW 1 POSITIVE THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU THIS MONTH!

Afternoon baths! Cooking more! Reading more! Writing more! Really appreciating the little things.

HAVE YOU BEEN MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR 1 DAILY OUTING?

100%, I’ve been on so many long lovely walks. I actually think I’m doing more exercise than I usually would LOL. I have also been using it to take ‘lockdown look’ outfit pics too!
